Happy Memorial Day, Cobra Island!

CobraIsland.com would like to wish you a very happy and healthy Memorial Day! Whether it’s at a barbecue, or on the couch with the kids…no matter what you do today, please remember to give thanks to the brave servicemen & women who have made it all possible. Today is a day to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure that folks like you and I don’t have to.

“Winston Churchill said of those he knew in World War II they seemed to be the only young men who could laugh and fight at the same time. A great general in that war called them our secret weapon, “just the best darn kids in the world.” Each died for a cause he considered more important than his own life. Well, they didn’t volunteer to die; they volunteered to defend values for which men have always been willing to die if need be, the values which make up what we call civilization. And how they must have wished, in all the ugliness that war brings, that no other generation of young men to follow would have to undergo that same experience.

As we honor their memory today, let us pledge that their lives, their sacrifices, their valor shall be justified and remembered for as long as God gives life to this nation. And let us also pledge to do our utmost to carry out what must have been their wish: that no other generation of young men will every have to share their experiences and repeat their sacrifice.”

Defending Our Myths and Heroes!

Here’s something that I thought was pretty cool at first glance, but when I read their “Our Story” page, I knew this was something special that I had to share!  The site is called Defending Our Myths and Heroes, and they sell artwork based on our favorite shows and video games from childhood!

However, that’s not why I realized I had to share this page.  I’ll let the artist take it from here!

How We Got Started

In 2012 I became aware of four individuals who were diagnosed with different types of cancer.  All four of these gentlemen were professional firefighters, but more importantly they were friends.  I knew of a fund raising event that was being thrown in their honor.  I wanted to contribute, so I drew a picture of three Transformers who transformed into different pieces of fire apparatus and offered it in a silent auction.  The piece raised a significant amount of money for these gentlemen, so I decided to continue with these sorts of efforts.  In 2013 I started DMH (Defending Our Myths And Heroes) with my goal being to represent the beloved mythologies of my childhood authentically, and give back to our modern day heroes.  My promise is that no less than 10% of our profits will be donated to our modern day heroes.  In 2013 we donated to the NFFF (National Fallen Firefighters Foundations), in 2014 we donated to C.O.P.S. (Concerns Of Police Survivors), and we have yet to finalize the charity for 2015.
So if you want to support a great cause, check out their site!  You can find great art like the Cobra image above, Mortal Kombat:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:

and many more awesome characters from our childhood!
But wait there’s more!  Not only do they sell art prints!  They sell mugs and coasters, and blankets!
Tell me you wouldn’t love to sleep, safe and sound, knowing the Dinobots are there to protect you from monsters?!

Boss Fight Studio Factory Visit!

Boss Fight Studio sent an email with images and information about their recent trip to the factory in Hong Kong, where their action figures are being made!

Cool Pics From Our Factory!
Heya Boss Fighters! Erik and Dave recently returned from their trip to Hong Kong and China to visit our partners that are helping us manufacture our toys. We knew you’d enjoy a special peek at hos the process works.
Now, these are just a few snapshots of certain stages in the process, we’ll make sure to keep sharing over the coming weeks. Please keep in mind that these images are of final production pieces of the Marauder Task Force figures for our friends at Marauder, Inc. – the Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S are at an earlier stage of production so those will come later.
Enjoy this sneak peak!

Gentle Giant Zap!

Gentle Giant Ltd. posted a pre-order for Zap, from their upcoming line of 12″ G.I. Joe figures!

Inspired by the Hasbro vintage GI Joe A Real American Hero figure, Gentle Giant Ltd. is proud to bring you the GI Joe Bazooka Soldier, Code Name: ZAP. One of the first figures released in the series that started in 1982, continuing our amazing series of jumbo vintage figures. From the GI Joe Command File: BAZOOKA SOLDIER Code Name: ZAP File Name: Melendez, Rafael J. Primary Military Specialty: Engineer Secondary Military Specialty: Infantry Artillery Birthplace: New York City, New York Grade: E-4 Rafael “Zap” Melendez is one of the original 13 members of the G.I. JOE team. He’s a specialist in armor-piercing and anti-tank weapons, but he also assists the team as a demolitions expert. From his training in Engineering School, Ordnance School, and Advanced Infantry, he’s acquired field skills that he applies with his characteristic coolness under fire and a professional attitude in any situation. He’s participated in many battles against COBRA and uses knowledge gleaned from those missions to pinpoint and attack the evil organization’s weak points. And just to be absolutely sure of the outcome, he backs up every plan with plenty of weapons and explosives. “The stuff I work on could blow up at any time, so I have to make sure that anytime something explodes, it causes COBRA COMMANDER to have a very bad day.” The GI Joe A Real American Hero Jumbo Figure line features reproductions of the original 3 ¾” figures, using digital scanning and outputting to create an exact replica, only larger. Each figure will be reproduced using the original engineering, right down to the internal rubber band. The figures will be injection molded with durable plastics. Each GI Joe A Real American Hero Jumbo Figure will include accurate articulation, all of the character’s accessories, and will be packaged on a backer card featuring photos and artwork from the original packaging, all the way down to the File Card on the back.
