G.I.JOE Stop-Motion Film Festival – May 26, 2018 Early Bird Deadline

GI JOE FEST has shared word on an exciting Stop Motion Film Festival centered around the world of G.I.Joe! Check out the official press release below –

The GI JOE STOP MOTION FILM FESTIVAL is the world’s first festival dedicated to screening works by stop-motion artists who use GI Joe action figures (12 inch 3 ¾ inch sizes) as main characters or actors. The Festival combines the excitement of world premiere short-films and fan tributes with the allure of Denver’s nightlife. GI JOE FEST highlights up and coming filmmakers, as well as masters of the craft and has already attracted award winning films in the past years. Independent in every sense, these films share the same willingness to challenge the conventions set for stop-motion.

We are a distribution vehicle for truly indie animators that distrust the commercial film festival circuit. We are a celebration of what is possible in independent stop-motion animated films. We have also completed several national tours at 8 major US cities and even traveled abroad to places like Singapore, Slovakia and Canada.

There are only TWO main rules for our Festival:

  1. Your film MUST be shot using stop-motion technique. Puppetry, wires and live action could also be used as long as it does not comprise 30% of the entire film.
  2. Your main character MUST be an official G.I. Joe action figure, created by Hasbro, Inc. or an Action Man figure, created by Palitoy. Other licensed figures are also accepted, like “Comandos em Acao” and “Falcon” (BRAZIL) or “Commandos Heroicos” (MEXICO). Other action figures, dolls and toys can be used for supporting roles.

So go grab that camera and get to work, Cobra Island Faithful! The Early Bird Deadline will be here before you know it! Want to discuss ideas, themes and other topics related to this project? Then join us after the break on the Cobra Island Forums

PHX Customs Retro Toy Chest 3 Day 10 – American Defense from Remco

Project: No Joe!

The Corps, American Defense, Sgt Rock, Bronze Bombers, US Forces, Ninja Strike Force, Commando Force, there were several 3.75’’ toy lines that competed with GI Joe in the 80s and 90s. We all had at least one figure like that in our childhood collections. Most of us have had that feeling of disappointment when we ask for GI Joes for our birthday only to open a Corps figure given to us by a well-meaning Grandparent.

Bucky and Oreobuilder have been talking about making customs based on these lines ever since they started their first Resurgence project in 2014. They opened that can of worms with last year’s ‘’Retro Toy Chest II’’ project when the whole PHX gang made some customs based on these characters. That gave the team the momentum to continue with their project. This time, HypnoHustler joins the squad! He has demonstrated his love for these lines by making several kick-butt customs of various Remco figures. They’ll revisit a couple of those customs as well as show off a bunch of new ones.

The first step was to scour the web for good reference pictures. That is easier said than done. There are a few sites that have character lists with pictures, but none are exhaustive, so the PHX Customs Team were always finding figures that were not on one site or another. They started by making a master list of all the characters we could find. They then each picked their favorites and went from there.

Over the next two weeks, they’ll show off what they came up with. With that, we present Retro Toy Chest 3-Project: No Joe! Enjoy and happy Custom Celebration XII! Bucky, DanoftheDead, Dusty79 and Oreobuilder, with Special Guest Star Hypno Hustler!

Hammer of the Gods Toys and Popprolific Present Fury Force

Pray for peace. Prepare for 5.5 war.

Hammer of the Gods Toys (HotGToys) and Popprolific have let the cat out of the bag and revealed a special project that they’ve been collaborating on. That project? The 5.5″ Fury Force, an assortment of Heroes and Villains modeled after your favorite Modern Army Action Figure! Here’s the scoop from both camps:

HotGToys on Instagram: We’ve been sneaking around for weeks and it’s time to come clean: Popprolific and Hammer of the Gods have joined forces to bring you… Fury Force! A series of 80s inspired, 5.5, military figures you never knew you wanted. Heroes who will defend freedom at all costs against the ruthless Agents of the Serpent. Keep an eye here and throw my man POPprolific a follow to keep updated on release schedule.

Popprolific on InstagramThere was a space in my collection…. a gap between the space faring barbarians and the hordes of snake persons. A spot on the shelf where something was missing. Had I seen it before? I couldn’t quite bring it into focus… @hotgtoys saw it too. An idea so familiar, yet bizarrely different. It was like your childhood… only, not the way you remember. In the way nostalgia is sometimes. The rumors were true, we’ve combined our talents. Months spent in secrecy, and only the tip if the iceberg has been seen. That is, until now….

As seen in the attached images, there are 8 characters so far, with more teased at as coming soon! Will you be adding these amazing Fury Force figures to your collection once they become available? Sound off after the break on the Cobra Island Forums

Don’t forget, make sure to follow Popprolific on Instagram and HotGToys on Instagram and Facebook to see more of this amazing project, including characters not shown here!
