Netho Diaz Shares IDW Publishing’s G.I.Joe A Real American Hero 248 Opening Scene

Netho Diaz has been doing an amazing job keeping fans of G.I.Joe excited through his shares of artwork on his Twitter account. Today was absolutely no different, as the “Mic Drop” came about 2 hours ago as Netho shared the opening scene from G.I.Joe #248!

The scene shows Dawn Moreno with Uzis in hand, the bodies of her fallen Red Ninja foe around her, Arshikage banner tattered in the background. What really sticks out to me the most about this piece is that it’s “so Snake Eyes”, yet is uniquely Dawn…which is fitting of the character, no?

Don’t forget, Issue #248 is a silent issue which just increases the level of awesome tenfold. Are you excited to add this issue to your collection? Get in on the discussion already in progress on the Cobra Island Forums!

G.I.Joe A Real American Hero Comics Sell Out Upon New Female Snake Eyes Debut

Earlier today, Mr. Tom Waltz shared word via twitter of exciting news for the G.I.Joe: A Real American Hero title! IDW Publishing has shared a dispatch noting that issues #244, #245 and #246 have all sold out with a second printing on the way! Here’s the scoop from IDW:

San Diego, CA (December 5, 2017) – Who is DAWN MORENO? She’s the new SNAKE-EYES and break-out character of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero! Scripted by legendary G.I. JOE writer Larry Hama, with art by incoming artist Netho Diaz (Aquaman), issue #246 marks the beginning of the “Dawn of the Arashikage” storyline, which sees Dawn, a Mexican-American teenager, take on the mantle of Snake-Eyes, one of the most iconic members of the G.I. Joe team. This pivotal issue in Hama’s long-running G.I. Joe saga has now sold out at the distributor level, as have the preceding issues #244 (featuring Dawn’s first appearance in costume) and #245 (Dawn’s first cover appearance in costume as Snake-Eyes).

Dawn Moreno, who debuted in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #226, was once a gifted high school athlete whose unique physical abilities drew the attention of Cobra Commander. The Cobra elite put Dawn under intense experimentation, accidentally implanting the memories of the original (and now deceased) Snake-Eyes into Dawn’s fragile teenage mind. Now, as a haunted Dawn struggles against visions of a dark past that does not truly belong to her, Snake-Eyes’ longtime ninja comrades from the Arashikage Clan have joined together to help Dawn overcome the waking nightmare her young life has become…

“As I recently told our readers, Dawn Moreno is a fascinating character who provides me with a brand-new canvas to paint on,” said Hama. “With the original Snake-Eyes’ memories implanted into her young mind, Dawn gives me a whole new way of looking at character qualities (both her own and those of Snake-Eyes) that isn’t bogged down by accumulated continuity with a new character, who can voice things that were always left unsaid.”

Issue #226 featuring Dawn’s first appearance is sold out, but fans can jump on board with G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Volume 16, which collects that issue and marks the beginning of her journey to becoming Snake-Eyes. To meet demand, a second printing of issue #246 will be rushed to the printer, featuring the special Netho Diaz cover art seen here.

Get To Know The Finest – A G.I.Joe Costume Club

Our friends from The Finest – A G.I.Joe Costume Club have kicked off a new series named “Get to know The Finest”! The goal of the series is to introduce us to those are part of this fantastic cosplay club. The series kicks off with Mr. Lenvil King Jr., the founder of The Finest! Check it out –

I️ first started costuming circa 2001 and donned my first costume – a late 15th Century Landsknecht! But I had a lifelong love of GI Joe so it was natural that those were some of my first costumes. I joined a costume group, but it wasn’t a good fit, and so decided to start doing it on our own (with close friends) and we would welcome Joe fans and costumers alike. They would always have a home with the Finest. Of course back then it was called “Cobra’s Finest”, but I guess it was natural to include the filthy Joes too!

The Finest was founded out of a desire to be able to coordinate and meet up at cons with other Joe fans in costume. There really wasn’t any serious attempt at that before. We thought it was more fun to dress up in groups. We wanted to have a place where we could build costumes together, troop, make friends, and enjoy it! We just wanted to look like the figures we grew up with as well! So the group was to be a canon club!

There wasn’t even a place you could go buy some of the ornate costumes, props, and equipment, so we started to make designs, molds, and builds for the costume community and in particular, GI Joe costumers. We formed Pit Viper Studios, where we now supply the Finest with a lot of their gear, armor, and helmets. I am proud to say we started a group [The Finest] that has grown and represents the best parts of what the GI Joe fandom is.

This is a real cool initiative on part of The Finest and we look forward to bringing you future installments as they’re made available. What are your thoughts on the first “Get to know The Finest” segment? Sound off after the break on the Cobra Island Forums
