In Memoriam – Mr. R. Lee Ermey 1944 – 2018

It’s with a heavy heart that we share word that Mr. R. Lee Ermey, better known as “Gunny”, passed away yesterday, April 15th.

Ronald Lee Ermey was an actor that achieved stardom for his role as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Full Metal Jacket. The following was shared by Mr. Ermey’s long time manager, Mr. Bill Rogin:

It is with deep sadness that I regret to inform you all that R. Lee Ermey (“The Gunny”) passed away this morning from complications of pneumonia. He will be greatly missed by all of us. It is a terrible loss that nobody was prepared for. He has meant so much to so many people. And, it is extremely difficult to truly quantify all of the great things this man has selflessly done for, and on behalf of, our many men and women in uniform. He has also contributed many iconic and indelible characters on film that will live on forever. Gunnery Sergeant Hartman of Full Metal Jacket fame was a hard and principled man. The real R. Lee Ermey was a family man, and a kind and gentle soul. He was generous to everyone around him. And, he especially cared deeply for others in need.

There is a quote made famous in Full Metal Jacket. It’s actually the Riflemen’s Creed. “This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.”

There are many Gunny’s, but this one was OURS. And, we will honor his memory with hope and kindness. Please support your men and women in uniform. That’s what he wanted most of all.

Semper Fi, Gunny. Godspeed.

OORAH, Gunny. Rest in Eternal Peace. You can share your respects & memories of Mr. Ermey with us on the Cobra Island Forums

Cobra Island Flashback Friday – G.I.Joe A Real American Hero Season One Promo Poster Art by Will Meugniot

For this edition of #FlashbackFriday, we’re taking a look at the G.I.Joe a Real American Hero Season One promo poster, created by Mr. Will Meugniot. Mr.  Meugniot is an American writer, storyboard and comics artist, film producer and director, best known for his work on animated shows. He’s worked on so many favorites, from Bucky O’Hare and the Toad Wars to Exo Squad, Batman to X-Men..and of course G.I.Joe.

Yesterday, Mr. Meugniot shared this brilliant pencil comp alongside the finished G.I.Joe a Real American Hero Season one Promo poster. He notes that the finished art turned up in a lot of places, including Entertainment Weekly. He’d been asked to design the promo as a painted piece like the original Transformers poster, hence all the shading that you see. At the last minute, Sunbow decided that they’d rather do the piece as an “inked drawing” instead. Neither he nor Mr. Russ Heath had the time do complete the inking task, so the team in Ink & Paint had to sort it out – and did a remarkably good Job.

Thanks to sites like 3DJoes, pieces like this are being preserved for future generations of fans to enjoy. Many thanks to Mr. Meugniot for sharing this piece of G.I.Joe history! You can share your thoughts on this Sunbow G.I.Joe A Real American Hero Season One Promo Poster art after the break, right here on the Cobra Island Forums

Acid Rain World Broz Character Profile Now Available

The latest character profile from the Acid Rain World has been shared via the ARW Facebook Page. Check out the character profile for Broz, a Sentor from the Agurts faction:

An Agurts senator hailing from the prestigious Broz family. With their immense wealth and network, they were pretty much guaranteed a seat when the senate was formed. His current allegiance resides with the new president, Ribar, who advocates policies to tighten welfare spending and focus on economic development. Regarding the Bucks Team scandal, Broz insisted on stern measures to demonstrate a zero tolerance attitude from the government. His positions are welcomed and supported by the rapidly growing middle class of Agurts. With the myriad of complicated interests and politics from both the Senate and the Broz family foundation, the only one whom he can let his guard down to is his beloved little Miss Broz.

Animal Warriors of the Kingdom Playset by DnJ Toys

In related Animal Warriors of the Kingdom news, D&J Toys has shared more pics of the upcoming AWOK playset. This offering was part of Animal Warriors of the Kingdom Kickstarter campaign and will be shipped to backers soon (quick FYI: For those that contributed at this level, the Playset is being shipped separately from the figures).

From D&J: As the Animal Warriors of the Kingdom figures are shipping, I wanted to get some shots of the Temple set with the figures. Since they are shipping separate, I thought people who got in on those would like to see the figures with the set for size comparison. It’ll ship soon. This continuous cold, wanna be winter that is remaining has held up a lot of progress. A lot of the process is needing warmer weather. If there’s interest while you wait, I’ll get some more shots out doors

Make sure to keep it locked to the D&J Toys Facebook Page for more pics as they’re shared this weekend. Did you contribute towards the the Playset? If not, do you wish you did? Get in on the conversation already in progress after the break on the.
