Here’s an awesome set of customs making the rounds the ‘net, and rightfully so! From Just Ian Customs comes this amazing set of customs based on the Pyramid of Darkness story arc from G.I.Joe A Real American Hero.
In Pyramid of Darkness, our heroes Snake Eyes and Shipwreck, accompanied by their faithful companions Timber & Polly, find themselves in the thick of Cobra Country with no way out. Enter Satin, a performer who just might have a way to get them to safety…well, if their up to it, that is.
Ian has done an incredible job capturing the likeness in each of these custom creations, as the entire set looks like it just jumped off of the screen. What are your thoughts on Ian’s Satin and her Dolls from The Pyramid of Darkness? Sound off after the break on the Cobra Island Forums!
Check out this amazing custom Modern Era rendition of the G.I.Joe Ranger, Stalker by Oreobuilder Customs! Here’s the scoop from OB:
I never had Stalker when I was a kid. None of my friends had the figure either, and he did not figure prominently in any of the few early Marvel issues that I had (5, 11, 12 and 24) so my only early knowledge of the character was through the Sunbow series and the catalogs. As such, when I was collecting and playing with Joes in the early years, Stalker did not really register on my radar. Later, when I was a bit older and just getting out of Joes, I received a copy of Special Missions 17 for Halloween. In the issue, Stalker leads a small team of Joes on a raid of a corporate building. It was only when I started collecting as an adult and I read the whole Marvel run that I developed an appreciation for the character.
For my custom, I stuck close to my established recipe for the other OG13. The Marauder MTF head oozes Stalker in my opinion. The colors match the vintage version as closely as possible as well.
Head, hands, beret: Marauder MTF
Torso: Paris Pursuit Snake Eyes
Arms, legs: DG Duke
Web gear: 25th Snake Eyes
Weapon: Vintage Stalker
Collar: POC Steel Brigade
What’s your take on OB’s vision of Stalker? Pretty flawless if you ask me! Sound off on this custom after the break on the Cobra Island Forums!

Hydro-Vipers are qualified EELS (Cobra Frogmen) who volunteer to be surgically altered to withstand nitrogen narcosis and other side effects of deep diving. Synthetic webs are implanted between their fingers and subcutaneous fat production is stimulated by chemical injections to provide natural insulation. The long term effects of these procedures is known to be psychologically destabilizing…
Swizzlesticks’ custom stays true to the original formula while giving the character a much deserved Modern update. Hot on the heels of their Retro Toy Chest 3 project, PHX Customs brings you the preview for their next Project, which debuts Online and in person This June at JOECON! Check out the 14 panel introduction to the project below –
Over the last two weeks, the PHX Customs Crew, with Special Guest Star Hypno Hustler, brought us Retro Toy Chest 3, a collection of amazing customs based on properties outside of Hasbro’s G.I.Joe.
The Corps, American Defense, Sgt Rock, Bronze Bombers, US Forces, Ninja Strike Force & Commando Force were several 3.75’’ toy lines that competed with GI Joe in the 80s and 90s. We all had at least one figure like that in our childhood collections. Most of us have had that feeling of disappointment when we ask for GI Joes for our birthday only to open a Corps figure given to us by a well-meaning Grandparent.
Below is a re-cap of the customs created for the event, so make sure to visit each to get a full breakdown of that day’s offerings.
We here at Cobra Island had an absolute BLAST covering this latest event and look forward to bringing you the next! Yep, you read that right! PHX Customs have shared details on their next project that you can check out here: PHX Customs Presents…
The Corps, American Defense, Sgt Rock, Bronze Bombers, US Forces, Ninja Strike Force, Commando Force, there were several 3.75’’ toy lines that competed with GI Joe in the 80s and 90s. We all had at least one figure like that in our childhood collections. Most of us have had that feeling of disappointment when we ask for GI Joes for our birthday only to open a Corps figure given to us by a well-meaning Grandparent.
Bucky and Oreobuilder have been talking about making customs based on these lines ever since they started their first Resurgence project in 2014. They opened that can of worms with last year’s ‘’Retro Toy Chest II’’ project when the whole PHX gang made some customs based on these characters. That gave the team the momentum to continue with their project. This time, HypnoHustler joins the squad! He has demonstrated his love for these lines by making several kick-butt customs of various Remco figures. They’ll revisit a couple of those customs as well as show off a bunch of new ones.
The first step was to scour the web for good reference pictures. That is easier said than done. There are a few sites that have character lists with pictures, but none are exhaustive, so the PHX Customs Team were always finding figures that were not on one site or another. They started by making a master list of all the characters we could find. They then each picked their favorites and went from there.
Over the next two weeks, they’ll show off what they came up with. With that, we present Retro Toy Chest 3-Project: No Joe! Enjoy and happy Custom Celebration XII! Bucky, DanoftheDead, Dusty79 and Oreobuilder, with Special Guest Star Hypno Hustler!
Read on to check out Day 14 of the Event, then join us after the break for discussion already in progress on the Cobra Island Forums!
Heads Up, everyone! Don’t forget that AVACSLAB will be re-opening tonight, Saturday, March 3rd at 8pm CST! The store will not only be re-stocked with fan favorite items, but will also be chock full of new items to get your customizing hands on!
Now, because of the way the eCrater storefront system works, AVAC can’t show you all the neat items he’ll have available through his normal storefront, so he’s set up a few previews on his commissions page, Firebat Labs. Now, don’t get sticker shock; The promo items are intentionally priced at $1K to avoid folks buying them before the official launch this Saturday…but as AVAC has noted, if you’d like to pay that much for a custom piece, then have at it! 🙂
