G.I.Joe A Real American Hero Comics Sell Out Upon New Female Snake Eyes Debut

Earlier today, Mr. Tom Waltz shared word via twitter of exciting news for the G.I.Joe: A Real American Hero title! IDW Publishing has shared a dispatch noting that issues #244, #245 and #246 have all sold out with a second printing on the way! Here’s the scoop from IDW:

San Diego, CA (December 5, 2017) – Who is DAWN MORENO? She’s the new SNAKE-EYES and break-out character of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero! Scripted by legendary G.I. JOE writer Larry Hama, with art by incoming artist Netho Diaz (Aquaman), issue #246 marks the beginning of the “Dawn of the Arashikage” storyline, which sees Dawn, a Mexican-American teenager, take on the mantle of Snake-Eyes, one of the most iconic members of the G.I. Joe team. This pivotal issue in Hama’s long-running G.I. Joe saga has now sold out at the distributor level, as have the preceding issues #244 (featuring Dawn’s first appearance in costume) and #245 (Dawn’s first cover appearance in costume as Snake-Eyes).

Dawn Moreno, who debuted in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #226, was once a gifted high school athlete whose unique physical abilities drew the attention of Cobra Commander. The Cobra elite put Dawn under intense experimentation, accidentally implanting the memories of the original (and now deceased) Snake-Eyes into Dawn’s fragile teenage mind. Now, as a haunted Dawn struggles against visions of a dark past that does not truly belong to her, Snake-Eyes’ longtime ninja comrades from the Arashikage Clan have joined together to help Dawn overcome the waking nightmare her young life has become…

“As I recently told our readers, Dawn Moreno is a fascinating character who provides me with a brand-new canvas to paint on,” said Hama. “With the original Snake-Eyes’ memories implanted into her young mind, Dawn gives me a whole new way of looking at character qualities (both her own and those of Snake-Eyes) that isn’t bogged down by accumulated continuity with a new character, who can voice things that were always left unsaid.”

Issue #226 featuring Dawn’s first appearance is sold out, but fans can jump on board with G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Volume 16, which collects that issue and marks the beginning of her journey to becoming Snake-Eyes. To meet demand, a second printing of issue #246 will be rushed to the printer, featuring the special Netho Diaz cover art seen here.

Fresh Monkey Fiction Larry Hama Kickstarter Campaign Update – Scale Adjustment

Our friend Bill from Fresh Monkey Fiction sent out word via Kickstarter that the Larry Hama action figure will be delayed, as it will receive the same treatment as the upcoming Eagle Force Returns action figures and get a scale adjustment. I know I speak for many when I say that although delays are never fun, quality product is the goal; So in that respect, a delay is no worries at all. Here’s the scoop from the update:

Hey everyone

Designer Con was last weekend and we got to show the tooling for the Larry Hama figure as well as the proposed card art. We got some great feedback on the Larry figure and the Eagle Force Returns line. We have made the conclusion that the Larry figure is smaller than most fans would like, as you can see from this image. FYI Larry will not come with a holster.

So we have decided to redo the tooling in order to increase the size. The downside of this is that we will have to delay the shipping of the figure until the summer. We did not come to this decision lightly but feel this will make the figure better in the long run. We hope everyone understands and is willing to wait in order to make the figure better.

Thanks again for the support everyone.

Bill

Sounds like this Summer is going to be chock full of awesome figures coming our way, so keep it locked on the Cobra Island Forums for more details as they’re released!

Signed Sketch Cards to Help Seth Kushner’s Family!

Several artists have come forward to donate signed sketch cards to benefit the family of Seth Kushner who died earlier this year.

One of the artists who came forward was the one and only Larry Hama!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Graphic NYC Autograph Cards to Benefit Family of Seth Kushner, Photographer and Comix Writer

As a benefit and tribute to the late comic book writer/photographer Seth Kushner, a set of 13 Graphic NYC cards have been published to directly benefit Seth’s wife and son. Published by Hang Dai Editions through Christopher Irving’s The Drawn Word, the cards also feature creator signatures in a limited run.

Irving has decided to offer a limited number online at $15 per unsigned pack, and $25 for a pack with a single creator signature.

“I wanted a way to honor Seth’s work while also showcasing the friendships he cemented with creators during our Graphic NYC project,” Irving says. “I actually started with the intention of 10 cards, but had more creators wanting to participate. I also worked with the printer to find a stock that best replicated that used in our book,Leaping Tall Buildings: The Origins of American Comics. It’s the most touching tribute I can think of for my old friend, and a great way to benefit his wife, Terra, and son, Jackson.

“It’s also a way to celebrate the release of Seth’s graphic novel memoir Schmuck, which isavailable now for pre-order through Amazon, provided you’re not able to have your local comic shop pre-order it for its September 15 release date.”

Twelve creators are showcased in the set, with the thirteenth a Seth Kushner card, using a photo portrait by Seth’s longtime friend Carlos Molina.

The creators are Neil Gaiman, Becky Cloonan, Art Spiegelman, Chris Ware, Dean Haspiel, Molly Crabapple, Larry Hama, Scott McCloud, Jimmy Palmiotti, Brian Michael Bendis, David Mack, and Alex Ross. Currently, most of the creator signature packs are available, with Gaiman’s signature only in one of five fully signed packs to be auctioned in the near future.

“Seth would have gotten a real kick out of seeing some of his photographs realized as classic trading cards, the kinds we used to flip and swap during lunchtime in the schoolyard,” says Haspiel. “The only thing missing from this set is a stale stick of bubblegum!”

100% of the proceeds go directly to Terra and Jackson. Only five fully-autographed sets will be auctioned off, with details to come. The Graphic NYC Cards will be sold at the Hang Dai booth at both SPX and the Baltimore Comic Con, along with Hang Dai’s three graphic novel releases by Kushner, Haspiel, and Gregory Benton. Remaining stock, if any, will continue to be sold through Irving’s The Drawn Wordwebsite.

Direct contributions can also be made to the Kushner family through their gofundme page.

More information can be found on The Drawn Word!
